In 2016, we insulated the “Pandasia” giant panda enclosure at Ouwehands Zoo in Rhenen. For this project, we insulated the external walls using HR-IsoSpray HFO.

About Pandasia
The giant panda enclosure forms part of a larger Asian-themed habitat that is home to several Asian animal species. The entire area covers approximately 9,000 m², of which around 3,400 m² is dedicated to the giant pandas. The panda enclosure consists of two separate sections, each with its own indoor and outdoor area for the male and female panda. It also includes several night enclosures, a maternity area, a refrigerated room for storing bamboo and a veterinary clinic.

Pandasia in traditional Chinese style
The Pandasia project was built in a traditional Chinese architectural style. A wide range of Chinese elements, ornaments and decorative features were incorporated to create an authentic appearance. Pandasia consists of two buildings connected by a wooden bridge.

The roof and external wall structures were traditionally manufactured in China and finished in authentic colours to complement the design. The façades feature circular elements depicting Chinese scenes, while the roof is covered with traditional roof tiles handmade in China.

The shape, construction, proportions, materials and colours of the buildings were inspired by a traditional Chinese temple. The project also features its own pagoda, incorporating carefully selected Chinese detailing, colours, materials and symbolism.
