De Koepel is being transformed into a multifunctional urban campus, with academic education at its heart. The redevelopment will turn the building and its surroundings into a vibrant destination. A basement is being constructed at the centre of the building, which will also serve as the foundation for an entirely new inner ring. This multi-storey structure will accommodate offices and meeting rooms, while the larger spaces will be used as lecture halls or a cinema.
The heart of this prestigious building remains a large, open space. In the redeveloped building, much of the impressive dome roof is visible from the basement. However, this vast open space also presents a significant challenge: reducing energy consumption. Contractor HBB Groep appointed Pluimers Insulation to carry out the extensive insulation work at De Koepel. To help create a comfortable indoor environment, Pluimers Insulation insulated the external walls and dome roof with polyurethane foam sprayed directly on site.
