Tailor-made insulation solutions for churches

Insulating a church requires a specialist approach. Moisture control, building physics and the preservation of the building’s architectural character all play a crucial role. We provide an insulation solution that:

  • Reduces energy costs: less heat loss means lower heating costs.
  • Improves the indoor climate: fewer draughts and a more comfortable temperature.
  • Respects the building’s historic value: we use insulation techniques specifically suited to historic and listed buildings.

Our insulation solutions for churches

  • Roof insulation: Because heat rises, the roof is often the largest source of energy loss. We insulate church lofts and vaulted ceilings using materials such as mineral wool or polyurethane foam to maximise energy savings.
  • Floor insulation: Where a church has a crawl space, we can install insulation from below. During restoration projects, insulation can also be installed from above. This not only reduces heat loss but also helps prevent rising damp.
  • Cavity wall insulation: We insulate cavity walls with polyurethane foam or mineral wool, providing excellent thermal performance while preserving the church’s historic character.
  • Insulating glass: Stained glass windows can be protected and insulated with secondary glazing, reducing draughts and heat loss without affecting their original appearance.

Grants for church insulation (DUMAVA)

Churches may be eligible for funding through the DUMAVA (Sustainable Social Real Estate Grant Scheme) to help finance energy-saving improvements. This Dutch grant scheme is available for social real estate, including historic and listed buildings, and provides financial support for insulation measures and other sustainability investments.

What does the DUMAVA grant offer?

  • Up to 30% funding for comprehensive sustainability projects that combine multiple energy-saving measures.
  • 20% funding for individual energy-saving measures, with a maximum grant of €1.5 million per application.
  • Financial support for measures such as roof insulation, cavity wall insulation, floor insulation and insulating glazing.

Key requirements

  • The grant application must be submitted before signing a contract or starting the work.
  • An approved sustainability assessment is required to qualify.
  • Buildings completed after 2012 must be disconnected from the natural gas network by the end of the project.
