  • HR-Isowool (Knauf Supafil Cavity 033) is a mineral wool specifically developed for blown insulation applications. Its unique fibre structure creates a durable insulation layer that does not settle over time and is water repellent.
  • Rockwool Fulfill is a next-generation stone wool insulation. Thanks to advanced fibre technology, it delivers excellent thermal performance with a lower installation density. It also provides outstanding acoustic insulation, helping to reduce external noise.
  • HR-Isoplus 35 (Plixxent Plixxopol RF 640070) is a two-component open-cell polyurethane foam. It is injected into cavity walls in both new-build and renovation projects to provide high-performance insulation.
  • Isover Insulsafe Plus is a blown mineral wool designed for cavity walls that have not previously been insulated. It improves both thermal and acoustic comfort and can be installed using either an injection or blowing method. It is suitable for cavity widths between 40 and 100 mm.
  • HR IsoPearl (Neopixels HR++ EPS Beads) is an enhanced version of EPS insulation beads. Their oval shape allows them to fit together more effectively, while the added graphite reflects heat rather than simply slowing it down, resulting in improved insulation performance.

How is cavity wall insulation installed?

Cavity wall insulation is installed by injecting or blowing insulation material into the cavity between the inner and outer walls. Before installation, an inspection is carried out to measure the cavity width and determine whether the wall is suitable for insulation. Once approved, small holes are drilled into the mortar joints at regular intervals.

The holes are drilled in a specific pattern before the insulation material is injected or blown into the cavity. Once the cavity has been completely filled, the holes are carefully sealed again.

During the inspection, the ventilation of the crawl space is also assessed. Installing cavity wall insulation can affect the existing airflow to the crawl space, so ventilation grilles are fitted during installation to ensure the crawl space remains properly ventilated.

Installing cavity wall insulation is a relatively quick process. For an average family home, the work usually takes anywhere from a few hours to one day, depending on the size of the property and the complexity of the installation.

Is my home suitable for cavity wall insulation?

Whether your home is suitable for cavity wall insulation depends on several factors. First, the cavity wall must have sufficient space to accommodate the insulation material. Homes built after around 1920 often have cavity walls, making cavity wall insulation, the removal of old cavity wall insulation or upgrading existing insulation relatively straightforward.
