National Grant Schemes
Energy Investment Allowance (EIA)
What is it?
The Energy Investment Allowance (EIA) is a tax incentive designed to encourage businesses to invest in energy-saving technologies and renewable energy solutions. It allows companies to deduct a substantial portion of their investment costs from their taxable profit. Eligible investments include insulation measures such as cavity wall insulation, HR++ glazing and energy-efficient heating systems. This not only reduces taxable profit but also lowers energy costs and supports more sustainable business operations.
Benefits:
- Up to 40% of the investment costs can be deducted from taxable profit.
- Lower energy costs.
Conditions:
- A minimum investment of €2,500 per business asset.
- The business asset must be included on the Energy List.
- The business asset must not have been used previously.
- You cannot claim both the EIA and the MIA for the same business asset.
More information: Visit the EIA page on the RVO website.
Environmental Investment Allowance (MIA) and Random Depreciation of Environmental Investments (Vamil)
What is it?
The MIA and Vamil are tax incentive schemes designed to support businesses investing in environmentally friendly and sustainable business assets. The MIA provides an additional tax deduction for investments in, for example, innovative insulation materials, while the Vamil allows businesses to depreciate investment costs at a time of their choosing. This improves cash flow and encourages sustainable business practices.
Benefits:
- MIA: Up to 45% of the investment amount can be deducted from taxable profit.
- Vamil: Up to 75% of the investment costs can be depreciated at a time of your choosing.
Conditions:
- The business asset must be included on the Environmental List.
- Only new business assets are eligible.
- The scheme can be combined with other tax benefits, such as the KIA.
- The environmental investment must be at least €2,500 per business asset.
More information: Visit the MIA/Vamil page on the RVO website.
Small-scale Investment Allowance (KIA)
What is it?
The Small-scale Investment Allowance (KIA) is a general tax incentive for businesses making smaller investments, such as HR++ glazing or insulation materials. It provides an additional deduction from taxable profit, allowing investments to pay for themselves more quickly. The scheme applies to both small and medium-sized investments, making it accessible to a wide range of businesses.
Benefits:
- Up to 28% of the total investment amount can be deducted from taxable profit.
Conditions:
- Only investments between €2,901 and €392,230 are eligible, and each business asset must have a purchase price of at least €450.
- Second-hand business assets are permitted.
